An isolated advertisement has to introduce itself every time. A visual world builds memory through connected choices: light, casting, typography, texture and rhythm.
Begin with references, then look for the principle beneath them. A moodboard is useful when it helps explain decisions. It is less useful when it becomes a collection of things to copy.
A good system holds variation. Give the campaign enough structure to be recognisable and enough freedom to grow. A portrait and a product detail should feel related without sharing the same layout.
Test the world where it will actually appear. The poster, the small phone screen and the website each reveal different weaknesses. The idea is finished when its relationships survive those changes.
